Description
Carved wooden sheath for sword, 1912.31.11 .1. Decorated with red cotton textile, feathers, teeth and beads. [LM 14/2/2007]
Long description
This is a double sheath. Outer sheath (for sword) is of two flat pieces of wood, bound together with black commercial braid. The upper part has a carved design. Tassels of animal fur and bundles of hair are tucked into the binding. The inner sheath (for a knife) is of bark, wrapped in red cotton textile. Both sheaths are wrapped with a length of red net textile. They are decorated with feathers, blue glass beads, tufts of hair and a bunch of four animal teeth. [LM 14/2/2007]
