Information from donor in Related Documents File states that the material was donated by Mrs Jean Davies who lived in Nigeria between October 1963 and the summer of 1965. Her husband the late R. O. Davies was working at the University of Nigeria at Nsukka. According to the donor many of the items in the collection were given to her or her husband as gifts or purchased by her in local markets.
