- Long description
- Pottery cup or vessel of red clay. The vessel has been glazed with large areas of the glaze now worn away. The main areas of glaze are at the top on the outer surface of the vessel and on the inside of the vessel. The inside is almost totally glazed. The top part inside has a clear glaze and the bottom part is glazed or painted and glazed in a light yellow or cream colour. The glaze has worn off around the mouth and the handle is only glazed in parts. The vessel has a flat base with a narrow (6mm) foot. Above the foot the vessel flares out to its widest point which is approximately 43 mm up the height of the vessel. From this widest point the vessel tapers very slightly and then flares out very slightly at the mouth. The section between the widest point and the mouth has been decorated with a glazed undulating pale yellow or cream coloured line. Much of this glaze has worn off. A handle is attached to the side of the vessel and loops from the widest point of the vessel to the mouth. [MdeA 23/6/2005]
