- Research and responses
To reconstruct the history of the objects in collection 1931.65(.1 - .6), it is necessary to combine the information provided in the Accessions Book with the information provided in the Accessions Book for the related collection 1929.39(.1 -.6) and that in a letter from the donor of that collection (held in the RDF). Taking these sources of information together, it seems clear that all the objects were collected near 'Highercombe' by 1860 (perhaps in 1859) by Tom Giles, agent of George Alexander Anstey (then resident in England) to whom they were forwarded in 1860. They then passed to one of G. A.'s sons Major W. F. Anstey, who donated them to the Museum (perhaps through his sister-in-law, Mrs Anstey, donor of the earlier 'Anstey' collection). [JC 28 7 1999]
