Description
Cup and ball game, composed of a stick [.1] and a ball [.2].
Long description
The handle/ catching device is cross-shaped and constructed from two pieces of pale wood, the horizontal piece being perforated and slotted over the tip of the upright and is fixed about a third of the way down. The upright is slightly conical and ends in a long narrow point. The horizontal is shaped like a double-ended hammer head: it is a short length of wood with rounded concave sides and a shallow cup carved at either end (one of which is larger than the other) forming a double-ended catching device. Both the horizontal and upright are painted with red and green bands and varnished. Attached to the handle/ catching device with a length of white string is a wooden ball (circa 50 mm diameter) which has been painted red and varnished and drilled with a deep hole. When playing the game the wooden ball can either be caught in one of the two shallow cups, or by getting the point of the upright into the hole in the ball. [JP 26/4/2004]
