- Long description
- Knife [.1] set into a wooden handle, and with sheath [.2]. Part of a set of objects that traditionally belong to the father of each rural household. Iron, slightly convex triangular blade one half of which is polished and the other half left black, set into a wooden handle. Three small grooves have been carved into one side of the handle and also one side of the sheath. The wooden sheath has been carved with a handle. Two deep grooves have also been carved into the sheath - one at either end - inset into which is copper wire that has been wrapped several times around the sheath in a basketry-type weave. The wood of the sheath and handle has been stained a dark brown except for a narrow unstained strip of pale wood along one side. [JP 5/3/2004]
