- Research and responses
This object was examined by Professor Itaru Chijiwa during his research visit in December 2010. He noted that the spellings in the Accession Book Entry are incorrect and that the advertisement is from Yunomine hot springs in Kii. [SM 17/12/2010]
The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2012 as: (Top two lines, from right to left) “Wakayama ken Higashimuro gun, Yunomine onsen”, Yunomine hotspring in Higashimuro gun, Wakayama prefecture. (In the text, second column from the top) “Meiji nijuichi nen roku gatsu nijusan niche”, 23 June, Meiji 21 (1888). (This shows the result of a scientific examination of the spring water and experiment for its effects. Yunomine has been a popular hot spring for pilgrims heading to Kumano.) [El.B 04/05/2012]
