Description
Roughly formed pottery vessel, in an hourglass shape. [ASh [OPS move] 10/02/2016]
Long description
the inside glazed red and painted with dark red stripes and the outside painted white. This vessel consists of a bowl placed on top of another inverted bowl. The inverted bowl acts as a pedestal however it is possible that it also functions as another bowl. This vessel consists of two bowls (one larger than the other), one of which is placed in top of the other which is upturned. The insides of both of these bowls are painted which suggests that rather than the one of the bowls simply acting as a pedestal this is, in fact, a double-bowled vessel, the bowl in use ay any one time being interchangeable, i.e. whilst one of the bowls is in use the other must function as the pedestal. Each of the bowls has a small handle on one side. The outside of the vessel is white and is unglazed. The rim and inside of one of the bowls is red and has been painted with dark red stripe. The other bowl is shallower and smaller in diameter than the other, the rim is painted white and there are splashes of white paint on the inside of the bowl. The rims of both bowls are chipped and the smaller bowl has a large crack in it. [JP 2/6/2003]
