Description: Unstitched sarong with plaid pattern in green, blue and purple and with three labels are adhered to the textile, and it has also been stamped with a mark in black ink.
Long description: This sarong was imported from Madras, India to either India or Malaysia where it was purchased. One of the labels is round and printed in red, black and white in ?Hindi. Another label is much larger than the first, it is square with a metallic gold coloured border and text printed in the same colour on a green, yellow and red background. This label reads : Mouhana Finer Brand. Trade Mark. Mouhana. Registered 80 x 80. Guaranteed Fast Colour. Manufactured by Mouhana Company (private) Ltd.' followed by the address of the company. The third label is oval, silver and black, and reads 'BARU'. The black print to the side of these labels has been stamped on to the textile but it is faint and largely illegible. [JP 11/4/2003]
