Description

Bread basket made out of date palm fronds. [CW [OPS move] 5/1/2017]

Long description

Round bread basket with a lid attached to it at two opposing points with cream string woven into the basketry . The string has been woven into the basketry in a zig-zag pattern enclosed in a square of string. A purple string follows the pattern of the cream string for decorative effect. The string is attached to the lid simply by threading through two opposing string loops which have been tied into the basketry on the top of the lid. The lid is flat with sides that slot down over the rim of the basket. Dyed purple, magenta and green palm leaves have been incorporated into the braid for decoration. There is a solid circle of purple braiding in the centre of the lid. Elsewhere there are unbroken bands of purple braid and bands of mixed colour braid. The base of the basket is undyed. Because the basket is older, the colours are faded.
