Long description
Marriage ornament. The ornament consists of a roughly heart shaped pendant attached to which is a loop of coloured and decorated strings which would enable the ornament to be worn around the neck with the pendant hanging down over the chest. The heart shaped pendant is constructed on a base of cardboard which has been covered on the back with purple and white paper and at the front has been padded out and then covered with peach coloured satin textile. The satin textile is covered nearly all over with sequins, designs of finely coiled metal wire and copper and silver coloured threads. The neck string is attached to the top of the pendant on either side. The neck string consists of several strands of orange cotton thread which have been wrapped in copper coloured thread. The strands are attached at intervals to four rectangular and two triangular ornaments made of card. These are also backed with purple and white paper and covered on the front with peach coloured satin. The satin is covered with sequins and silver and copper coloured threads. [MdeA 10/5/2002]
