- Long description
- Knife or sword [.1] with sheath [.2] and dagger [.3]. The sword has a metal blade and cream-coloured plastic hilt (to imitate ivory) with a tuft of goat? hair at the end. Below the plastic part of the hilt is a string-wrapped grip which has been painted with black, brown and yellow paint. The sword is held in a wooden painted sheath. The sheath is painted black and brown with designs in yellow paint. The sheath is decorated with tassels of red plastic beads ending in ruminant (cattle) incisor teeth. There are sections of ?goat hair attached to the sheath. The sheath also contains a bound on section for holding a smaller knife or dagger. This dagger has a painted wooden hilt and metal blade. This object was probably made for sale to tourists as all three parts are extremely clumsily made. [MdeA 23/11/2001]
