- Long description
- Fan of woven palm leaf with carved wooden handle and checked binding of plaited hair and palm woven together. The fan is of a deep golden-brown in colour and the outer edges of the uppermost sides have been embellished with brighter orange coloured strips of palm. These strips have been woven into the fan in a different style to the weave used on the main part of the fan and the result is a brighter coloured, more regular pattern or border approximately 20 mm in width. The handle of the fan has been carved from a length of dark reddish coloured wood, with a large rounded tear-like bottom narrowing up the handle to a squared wider section with a waisted middle. Above this section is the binding of rows of black and yellow-brown squares of hair and palm. [LKG 30/09/2009]
