Description
Dohr, sash woven from banana fibre with bands of decoration.
Long description
Dohr, sash woven from banana fibre with bands of intricate geometric patterning and a fringe at each end. Made by women using backstrap looms, the sashes are decorated with warp faced plain weave, supplementary weft patterning and tied in warp pattering. Woven from the fibre from banana fibre, also known as manila hemp, in undyed tan colour and reddish brown which may be dyed using morinda citrifolia, commonly known as Indian Mulberry. The sashes were worn over grass skirts during ceremonies, dances and feasts.
