- Description
- Matchbox sized, leather faced folding lantern. Three clear ?mica panes are in situ when opened. [MOBB [OPS move] 29/3/2017]
- Long description
- When folded the lantern is a rectangular box with leather on the two broadest sides (one leather panel has become detached and is stored with the object). One of these sides has two metal decorative scrolls across it which fold out to form a stand when the lantern is opened. Once opened vertically, the lantern unfolds due to a spring mechanism with one large rectangular pan and two narrower ones. The bottom half of the original box contains a candle socket which slides up to fit inside the shade, as well as two compartments on either side and two different striking surfaces on the top. There is a trademark stamped into one of the external sides with 'PAT.' above it and 'N.M.' stamped below. [MOBB [OPS move] 29/3/2017]
