Description
Wood and reindeer-horn snuff-box with incised decoration.
Long description
Wood and reindeer-horn snuff-box with incised decoration. Oval-shaped snuff box, 112 mm in length, 32 mm wide and 34 mm high. The base and lid are made of wood, the lid is in two pieces, which are joined with a metal decorative hinge, there a length of leather is threaded through one section of the lid that creates a handle for opening. Polished reindeer horn forms the sides of the box, which is presumably secured to the wooden base and lid with animal glue, plus two nails by the lid whose heads have been smoothly and neatly polished off. There is incised decoration on the reindeer horn, including a hunting scene on one side, and a single reindeer on the other.
