This object was examined along with others from the Chamberlain Collection by Sekiko Matsuzaki-Petitmengin in June 2003 and 15 October 2007. She placed this object within the category of Engi (history of temples etc) [SM 06/10/2008]
The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2011 as: (Top) “Sakai Shoun-ji temple Goyomatsu no zu” - Picture of Goyomatsu (Japanese white pine) in Shoun-ji temple in Sakai. (Sign board in the picture) “Garyo matsu” - a pine tree which looks like a lying dragon. (Top left,) “Shoun ji keidai zenkei” - View of the entire site of Shoun-ji temple. [SM 23/11/2011]
