Long description

Tinder pouch of black and red cloth, with attached fire steel and pipe cleaner. Oval shaped piece of black cloth with red strips, stitched and folded over to form a pouch. A hole in the fabric has been stitched as a repair. A decorative button is stitched to the top of the pouch, and there are two circular ?studs attached to the underside. A leather thong is connected to the end of the pouch's closure flap. This thong is tied on to a bone pipe cleaner and a fire steel. The pipe cleaner is curved with bluntly pointed edges, with a circular perforation through which the leather thong is threaded and tied. The fire steel is roughly rectangular with angled corners, and a central rectangular openwork section decorated with the initials 'J N S T'. [EH [OPS move] 9/8/2017]
