Research and responses

This object was examined by Professor Itaru Chijiwa during his research visit in November 2008. He noted that this amulet is from the shrine of Suitengu, not the "Temple of Suitengu", as noted in the Accession Book Entry. He also believes that the amulet may contain a strip of paper inside. [SM 01/12/2008]

The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2009 as: “Suitengu suinan yoke mamori” -Amulet from Suitengu shrine for protection against drowning. Please note: Some faded characters are not legible. [SM 10/02/2009]
