Long description
Amulet for safety of cattle and horses, printed strip of paper with printed inscription and image of lotus flower and teardrop shape. The inscription is in white on a black background and is in Sanskrit and Kanji. The teardrop shaped object at the top of the paper (above the lotus flower) is called a "hoju" or holy globe. [SM 20/11/2008]

The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2009 as: First half is written in Sanskrit, Last half, “Gyuba anzen kigan” – a prayer for the safety of cows and horses. [SM 10/02/2009]
