This is a large line drawing showing a 'breech-loading cannon', the first in a series of five sheets of drawings [1944.1.86 .1 - .5] relating to the history and development of different types of European firearms, presumed to have been used to illustrate a lecture (or lectures), possibly by General Pitt-Rivers, or alternatively to accompany museum displays on the subject. The name written below this drawing ('Greener, etc.') may be the artist(s) or, more likely, the original source (or one of the sources) for the series of drawings. W. W.
