Research and responses: Pitt Rivers was in Ireland [serving in the Army] from 1862-66, this object may have been obtained during this period [Bowden, 1991: 60-4]. 1884.123.607 is labelled 'Found on the banks of the Bann River in October 1864 by Pitt Rivers', I think one can therefore assume that he was in County Antrim then and that objects collected in that time in that area were collected by him [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
