Research and responses

During conservation treatment, it was noticed that on both sides of the spear-head there are marks imprinted on the surface, which resemble the marks left by a ?chain or a ?chain armour, possibly made of copper alloy (see images). [MO [Verve] 5/4/2017]

Pitt Rivers was in Ireland [serving in the Army] from 1862-66, this object may have been obtained during this period [Bowden, 1991: 60-4] [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
