Pitt Rivers collected a range of prehistoric material from the Iron Age enclosure at Dorchester Dykes in 1870, the year before he collected Roman coins 1884.99.21 - .23. It is not known from where exactly he collected the coins from; possibly the Dykes, or perhaps more likely from the modern town of Dorchester [SU 577 942] which lies over a small fortified Roman settlement. Details on the Roman settlement at Dorchester can be found on the English Heritage National Monuments Record [Pastscape], the monument number is 238093. The record can be accessed online at http://www.pastscape.org.uk/hob.aspx?hob_id=238093. [MN 28/05/2009]
