Pitt Rivers excavated part of the London Wall in October to December 1866 at the site of a foundation of a new wool warehouse, the site was 70 x 200 feet. He found fragments of pottery, metal and leatherwork, Roman coins, animal bones [see Bowden, 1991]. [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
Pitt Rivers monitored excavations happening at London Wall between October and December 1866. He published two papers on this in 1867. His work was also heavily referenced in a 1906 paper by Norman and Reader.
