A Sotheby sale of Lindsay objects took place on 8 April 1868. The Lugt number is 30411. There is a copy at the British Museum. [Dan Hicks 30/07/2013]
Since John Lindsay is probably the numismatist and antiquarian from Co. Cork (born 1789, and died 31 December 1870). This object was collected before April 1868, and perhaps considerably earlier than this date. [Dan Hicks 30/05/2012]
Pitt Rivers was in Ireland [serving in the Army] from 1862-66, this object may have been obtained during this period [Bowden, 1991: 60-4]. [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
