Long description
Wood panel. High relief carved design of a central roundel with interior quatrefoil motif. This is encased in an ogee arch with acanthus leaves either side of a floral apex. Below the roundal there are four gothic arches which encase foliate topped pillars. [BS [OPS Move] 10/7/2017]

Research and responses

This object cannot be matched against any Ag nos in Blue black or red book. This object could have been obtained by Pitt Rivers during his visits to Brittany in October - November 1878 and March - April 1879. He stayed in France during the intervening winter. During the 1878 visit to Brittany he spent the majority of his time around Carnac.
