Pottery vessel, jug.
Long description
Pottery vessel, jug. “Juglet of Bichrome V ware. Globular depressed body, ring base, short concave neck, pinched spout, flat handle from rim to shoulder. The main part of the body is decorated all round with four large arrow motifs, two black and two red. Horizontal bands around neckline and neck. Transverse bands and a diagonal on exterior of handle flanked by vertical bands. Handle from mouth to shoulder. Pale yellow body decorated in black and orange vertical lines in groups of three. [FC 28/01/2009]

“Probably excavated by Alessandro Palma di Cesnola 'Lawrence-Cesnola Collection'. Probably purchased by Pitt Rivers at Sotheby's, most likely on 15-17 May 1884.”. [Karageorghis, V., 2009, p.63] [JFK 12/11/2009]

It seems likely that this object was from the Lawrence-Cesnola collection which was sold at Sotheby on 15th May 1884 as other items from that collection bought on 15-17 May 1884 were received by SKM on 22 or 29 July [AP 24/04/2012]
