'Pan Bank' refers to a shipwreck site to the east of Whitstable, more commonly referred to as Pudding Pan Rock. There are collections of Samian ware from this site at the Ashmolean Museum, the British Museum, and at museums in Kent - see http://britisharchaeology.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/highlights/pudding-pan.html. It is possible that this object was among those displayed at the Society of Antiquaries of London on 30 May 1861 by "John Brent, jun., Esq. FSA" - see reference below. However, many objects from this shipwreck site were clearly in circulation, collected through dredging, etc. John Brent (1808 - 1882) appears to be related to Cecil Brent, who was the source of 1884.120.25 [Dan Hicks 15/03/2013]
