Research and responses

Nothing known about this British Army Colonel, the 60th Rifles did serve in India though during 1800s so he probably did field collect [AP 10/7/2009] The light infantry regiment was formally known as the King's Royal Rifle Corps. In 1815, its name was changed to The Duke of York's Own Rifle Corps. It was originally recruited from American colonists. In 1966 it became part of the Royal Green Jackets. Use of the old name might suggest the object predated 1815. The item might also come from Colonel North who gave 1884.24.165 and who served with the 60th rifles [AP 31/03/2010]

The dating to the Indian Mutiny only given in the 1862 Catalogue [AP 15/02/2012]
