Research and responses

Accession Book Entry : 1974.23.3 - W. AFRICA, MALI. Length of mud painted cloth - Bogolanfini. The mud is left to 'age' for some months until it is a dark grey colour; it is then painted onto the yellowed cloth (similar to 1974.23.2) using a piece of bamboo and a metal spatula. This cloth consists of 9 long, narrow strips stitched along edges and painted with continuous bands of chevrons and linear decoration which gives a blocked effect. The name of the design appears to be Mali. [MOB 1/11/2000]
