- Long description
- Marriage fan of embroidered material with many small round mirrors, a wooden handle and an outer edge of green material trimmed with orange material. The handle of the fan has been painted a pinkish red at each end and incised with parallel rings running around the handle. The handle has been perforated once at each end. The main textile form of the fan has been secured to the handle, having been folded around the handle and stitched into place. The embroidered design on the fan consists of yellow borders or outlines running parallel to the edge of the fan with alternating pink and blue circles sewn around small mirrors, outlined in green. Between the yellow borders is sewn a pattern of navy blue and white. At the centre of the fan is a mirror bordered in green and yellow with a ring of pink and blue bordered mirrors, each outlined in cream stitching. To the curving outer edge of the fan are rows of coloured fabric, cream, grey, pink and green. Beyond these is an edging of orange textile with a fringe of green material approximately 50 mm in width with folded pleats sewn into place and trimmed at the outermost edge in orange. On its reverse side this fringe on the outermost edge of the fan is made of purple material, again edged with orange. [LKG 03/09/2009]
