Miniature woven basketry hat.
Long description
Miniature woven basketry hat. The hat is conical woven with a chevron design. The rim of the hat is bound between strips of split cane which are stitched together. Such miniatures were woven as part of funerary practice and placed on the grave of the deceased.

Models of articles used during life were frequently made and were exhibited in small baskets hung at the door of every room where a death had occured since the last Berqawei Antoo. These were placed on the graves next morning. Ref. Ling Roth, H 1896 The Natives of Sarawak Vol I p. 258
