Description

Sword [.1] with curved and decorated blade and a wooden sheath [.2] with attached carrying strap. [SM 11/03/2008]

Long description

The sword blade is decorated with incised scrolling designs and is inlaid with circular brass wire. The hilt has a brass grip and a wooden pommel. The sheath is made from two pieces of carved wood tied together with seven bands of plaited ?cane. It is decorated with a carved pattern on one face below the mouth and has tufts of red, black and white dyed hair attached under the plaited ?cane. A smaller bamboo sheath is attached to the back of the wooden sheath. It is covered with red textile with a white and blue floral pattern on it. The sheath has a plaited carrying strap with two loops. It also has a piece of light coloured rope that is tied around the mouth. [SM 11/03/2008]
