- Loin cloth of dark blue textile with red woven lines and embroidery in orange wool. [JMC 16/12/2020]
- Long description
- Loin cloth of dark blue textile with red woven lines and embroidery in orange wool. The cloth comprises two short layers of textile stitched together around the edges with white wool, with one end gathered up into the rounded scrotum bag, and the other end acting as the front flap. The bottom of the flap is decorated with three horizontal lines of embroidery in orange wool. Both sides of the textile have six longitudinal red lines in the ground weave. From the scrotum bag a short strap of twisted cream coloured yarn extends. [JMC 16/12/2020] The object is warp-facing, plain weave textile chiefly using Z yarn twist cotton threads dyed dark blue (characteristics of indigo dye) for most of warps and wefts, except for red-dyed cotton threads of Z yarn twist 2 of which recur every 36 warps for 6 times in total. Edges along the bottom, PL and PR sides are secured using simple looping stitches with ecru-coloured string of S yarn twist. The scrotum bag is constructed by bringing together the two top edges of the short end of the rectangular cloth, sewn together using what appears to be a variant of cross-knit loop stitches. At the bottom edges of the front of the flap are three rows of linear embroidery using burnt orange coloured cotton strong of Z yarn twist in simple looping stitches. [MT 17/12/2020]
