- Long description
- Dark blue and red striped man's shawl with a broad blue middle band decorated with thin red lines. The cloth is formed of three panels of woven cotton: two outer panels and the central blue band, stitched together with blue yarn. Each outer panel is dark blue with four red warp stripes at each outer edge, and three further sets of three red warp stripes. In the wide dark blue stripes between these sets are groups of three short lines formed by supplementary warp threads. Each group comprises a blue line flanked by two slightly shorter red lines, and there are twenty-four of these groups in total. The central blue band has five sets of three red warp lines. It also has ten groups of three short supplementary weft lines, each comprising a dark blue bundle of threads flanked by two red bundles of threads. There are more of these weft stripes at the ends. The ends of the outer panels also have weft lines of alternating bundles of red and blue threads. The warp ends have been twisted and knotted into a fringe at each end.
