- Long description
- Lacquered sewing workbox. Rectangular box with black lacquered and gilded surface. Scalloped rims have been applied (one of which has broken away & is stored with the object). The lid of the box is inlaid with tortoisehell, mother of pearl and brass. The lid is on grey metal hinges and there is a metal lock with brass keyhole (key is missing). On the inside of the lid a rectangular mirror is framed with pink moire silk and twisted cord, this fabric also lines the inside of the box. A silk covered screen [1965.9.122 .2] can be placed in front of the mirror and held in place with brass clips. [BS [OPS Move] 18/5/2017]
