Long description
Carved and painted wooden male figure with pierced nose and shell eyes. With a large shell tied around the waist acting as a groin cover. The shell has been perforated and braided plant fibre string has been passed through the holes. The figure has been painted in black white yellow and red, and the pigment is slightly fugitive. The design painted over the stomach incorporates concentric rings in yellow black and white. The figures eyes have been inlaid with differently coloured ?shell, one red, one yellow. A part of the figure's left foot has broken off. A section of the shell groin cover has similarly broken, but remains tied to the figure by the braided plant fibre string. [LKG 24/06/2010]
