The legend of the forty-seven ronins originates in the 18th century and tells of forty-seven samurai who became leaderless after their lord was forced to commit suicide for assaulting a court official. They avenged their lord's death but had to commit suicide themselves afterwards. [Source: Wikipedia] [El.B 04/03/2008]
