Related Documents File - Letter from Frederick Ogilvie, Principal of Jesus College, dated 17 June 1947: 'Thank you very much for your letter and for your kindness in returning the basket. I am very glad that the museum find the South American pottery useful. ... Perhaps the description might be, "1947. Given by Sir Heneage Ogilvie, K.B.E., and Sir Frederick Ogilvie, in memory of their father William Maxwell Ogilvie of Dundee, 1852 - 1929, Merchant in Valparaiso, Chile, from 1884 to 1901." The words from "in memory of" to the end would be for the Accessions Book and would presumably be omitted on any labels. But I am naturally very happy to leave these matters to the Museum authorities. I am very glad that the Geology Department has found a home for the Vesuvius dust. My father was in Naples in the early 1880's, and I think it must date from then. I should be very glad for the Geology Department to have the larger ammonite. I would rather like to keep the smaller one unless it is of special value. [Added in pen] Please keep the knife and sheath by all means. ...' [MOB 29/1/2002]
