Research and responses

According to de Kolb (1968) Ashanti Goldweights No.1, Gallery d'Hautbarr: New York, page 61 the story relating to a pair of sandals is 'The feet of a Queen-mother and also those of a king, must never touch the earth. (The earth is the abode of death, and death to the Ashanti is contagious). Extra pairs of sandals are carried in royal processions by sandal-bearers.' [MJD 24/06/2011]
