Research and responses

These 8 bangles [1952.6.17 .1 - .7 and 2006.2.2] were found tied together. They represent a collection of different styles of bangle - some ornamented with white beads, some with foil. It is assumed that the accession entry which reads "7 bangles, seed pearls, white beads, gilt lac."

does not refer to the composition of each bangle in this group but rather to the range of materials used. Since the accession entry is quite specific about the number of bangles (7), it has been necessary to give the 8th bangle a new accession number. There were no accession numbers close to the original Hope department collection accession numbers so it has been necessary to use a 2006 number.
