- Long description
- Poisoned arrow with reed shaft wooden foreshafts and triangular tips of thin iron. The shafts notched, and plumed with three stiff guiding feathers attached by a whipping of fine bast threads. To prevent splitting, each shaft has a narrow ring of thick sinew immediately above the notch, and the upper end, where the detachable foreshaft is fitted in, and some also towards the upper end, by a whipping of strong black hair and ornamented at the lower end with red colouring matter. The thin, detachable wooden foreshafts are stuck into the upper end of the shafts, the cloven upper ends hold the tips and are made to fit tightly by means of a whipping of sinews. The tips are cut out of a thin piece of iron, triangular and without tangs. There is a dried coating of poisonous substance on the foreshaft. The foreshaft and tip is bound with a strip of soft skin, from kids or small antelopes. See [1944.10.1 .1 - .10] for the associated components of this object. [BS [OPS move] 20/9/2017];
