The central point at the top of the fan has been woven in solid black dyed palm strips, as have the tops of the upright sides. The handle of the fan has been bound in plaited orange-brown ?sennit fibre which has been tied-off and knotted around one of the bottom strips of palm leaf. There is a prominent raised area on both sides of the fan where the concealed upper part of the handle has been woven over. At the bottom of the handle is a plaited loop of ?sennit fibre.
