Long description
Picture on talc, depicting a group of men about a large wooden hoist, suspended from which is a man tied on by rope. The man suspended wears short red trousers, purple and white robes on his upper body, and a red turban. He is holding a sword and a black ?bag. Standing below is another man in similar clothing; short red trousers, green and white robes on his upper body and a red turban. This standing figure has his arms raised up. Four other men stand by the hoist, two are holding the cross beam down on the left side to raise the suspended figure, one stands to the left of the vertical pole of the hoist, playing a drum, and the fourth man stands on the far right, beneath the suspended figure and is playing a horn. These four men all wear short white trousers and three have red turbans while the fourth's is purple. Trees have been painted on the horizon and to the left of the picture, in the background a large white building. Written beneath the image in pencil is '[?]Marryannah [?]Stradle.'
